
The Morris Theatre
Guild, inc., is now taking applications for the 2009 Maurice Alford
Memorial Scholarship. This is a one-time only award to an area high school
senior who plans to pursue a career in some aspect of theatre/dramatic arts,
speech, or speech/broadcast communications. In the amount of $500, the
scholarship is applied to the student’s freshman year of college.
(This is not a journalism scholarship)
Area high schools have been sent information regarding this scholarship, but interested seniors may also call area code 815-942-1966 or e-mail jegalg@sbcglobal.net to obtain an application. Completed applications must be postmarked by March 15, 2009, to be considered for the award.
The scholarship money comes from donations and a percentage
of the ticket sales from each major
Morris Theatre Guild production.
The
Alford Scholarship was established to honor the memory of the late Maurice
Alford, one of the Guild’s charter members and leading figures in the
theatrical and speaking arts, who died unexpectedly in 2000.
Scholarship
applications must be postmarked no later than March 15, 2009.
